MBFWA 2013: designer Ellery
Ellery can do no wrong. Really. Her designs are beautiful and desirable. I want to own so much of her collection. It's always the way! I love the shoes they have used in her show, they are ultra cool and somehow remind me of the days when I was obsessed with dressing like a dancer, and thinking that it was cool to wear leg warmers out, with dresses or whatever. That sounds really weird doesn't it! Maybe some of you will know what I mean. I love the look of the mini shorts or skirts with this heavy shoe, which looks almost like mini 'A-Line skirts' over your ankles. Perfect for me as I have Cankles. You know- the calves that run into your ankle, so you really don't have any!? Well, thats me- so these shoes are the perfect disguise. Anyway, I love the first look. Black and gold always looks great together. So does a big jacket with small, mini shorts. The models legs may infact add to the reason why this 'look', looks soooo amazing! Probably. Then there's Julia looking angelic in the second photo. Her beautiful pale skin, white blonde hair work well with the all over white look. Her look's have grown on me in a massive way. At first I really wasn't sure what I thought about her, but she truly is beautiful and not in the obvious way. The more you look at her, the more you fall in love with her looks. I'm loving the pants in the third photo, but also have to comment on the models hair cause I dig it.. Messy and styled perfectly. Then I have put up another photo of Julia in that beautiful black dress. She's so slim and tall so she looks absolutely breathtaking in this dress. It's amazing how eye-catching a plain black dress can be. I love Cassie's look in the photo below with the very basic mini black dress contrasted with the white shoes. I have to say though, she's too skinny!! I saw her walk in the LMFF and was thinking the same thing in the flesh.. The fact that she has a baby, baffles me.. How it is possible and to have a body like that!?? I guess she's still, what, 20?? Yes she is naturally skinny- that's for sure, but this is different. She's lost too much weight. Anyway, she still looks amazing, as does her hair. It's a beautiful colour at the moment. All in all, the hair and makeup for the Ellery show is beautiful! I'm loving the look after Cassi in the seventh photo down. I always love a bulky jacket tied around a stylish outfit. Once again, I just feel the shoes tie the whole look together and work perfectly! Then there is the model Claire Collins (99% sure that's her name), who I think is one of the most stunning models in the Aussie market right now. She is sooooooo beautiful! Anyway- I love the gold skirt, but not sure about the top.. It's growing on me, but I don't get the look right off the bat.. I'm obsessed with the look after that with the bulky black jumper and high waisted black shorts. Super cool and easy and hot! I think it's very sexy for a girl to be wearing quite bulky clothing on the top, with something mini and loosely fitted or figure hugging, so you show off your legs. I think its flattering and sexy- especially when your a model and have legs like those!! Lastly there is Ruby Jean in an outfit I probably wouldn't of clicked and saved had it not been for her in it.. That's the amazing thing about her- she can make anything look good and appealing. I guess thats why she in such high demand both here and internationally. Anyway, click HERE to be taken to more photos from APL.
MBFWA 2013: designer Ginger and Smart
I have always loved Ginger and Smart. Their prints, their cuts and their styling. I could of really saved every photo from their collection to show you, but chose the ones below as my picks of the bunch. See the rest HERE from the APL Facebook page. Their show was on day 2 of Fashion Week and what a great start to the week. Bold prints and colours, sexy and flirty cuts that are edgy and cool. I could really own everything in the collection if I could afford it! Loving the outfit in the first pic! The matching blazer with high waisted shorts and the little white crop top to finish off the look works so well. Then the printed cropped loose top, matched back with the fitted high waisted printed mid length skirt is also such a good look- in my eyes. Very stylish and cool, without trying to hard. How amazing is the print as well!? You can see it better in the fifth photo when it's slightly more close up. The colours are epic and I loveeeee. Underneath this look, is the dress version of the top and skirt, which I don't know if I would wear as I'm not so used to that style, but think it's amazing and would look great on the right girl. Had to include the photo below that, with Ruby Jean.. God she is so amazing looking. She has a mixture of an innocence meets evil look about her. An Angelique devil. Maybe that description is a bit extreme, but you get my point. I've fallen in love with the outfit under Ruby. The cropped printed black and white bomber jacket, with high waisted mini leather shorts. How hot! Honestly. I want both pieces in my wardrobe bad!! Love that the jacket is just black and white as well, as it would look amazing over a bright top or dress.. Ahhhhh…. The black dress with sheer panelling is not my style at all but I do appreciate the design and it's a very sexy dress that would look so hot with hair up, red lippy and either black accessories, or contrasted with a really bright bag or shoes. Amazing… Then there is the pale pink suit with hot crop top underneath.. Def want to own that! Such a goodie.. I probably wouldn't wear the suit, but its beautiful! The outfits in the last 3 images I'm dying over. the printed dress in the third last, the crop top and pants in the second last and then the whole look in the very last image is out of control! So bloody cool. That jacket- so so cool… The skirt, just perfect- the colour and the design. Simple yet makes such a statement, then the printed crop top.. There has been a large amount of crop tops in this collection and I really think its becoming acceptable to wear just a crop top with high waisted pants, shorts or a skirt. Where as a couple of years ago, I think the idea of this look was considered maybe a bit slutty? Or maybe thats just me thinking that.. Ginger and Smart have totally made me want to rock this look though and have fun with my outfits.. At the end of the day, who cares what other people think- as long as you are happy and feel good in what you are wearing, nothing else matters!! Enjoy xx
MBFWA 2013: Designer Toni Maticevski
I first really came to know of the designer Toni Maticevski at my sister, Bridgets wedding a few years ago in Bali, as he designed her beautiful wedding dress. It was truly amazing and fit like a glove. Perfection and she really did look like a princess. After that, I knew he was a very talented, creative designer who of course designs beautiful, romantic and intricate pieces that make a girl feel special and elegant. Like a lady. In saying this, some of his designs are quite edgy and 'out there,' which can be seen in his latest collection shown at the Merecedes Benz Fashion Week 2013. See more photos from the runway by APL Photography HERE on their Facebook page. Models Ruby Jean Wilson and Julia Nobis both walked for Maticevski and looked absolutely amazing. See Ruby in the second photo and Julia in the third. When they are walking, they command such attention and are so engaging its crazy. Even watching the show through a computer screen (which is streaming HERE on Maticevski's website), they have such a strong presence. He had quite a bold colour palette of black, white, red and white mixed with shades of these, and his designs were classic and original. His work with draping is truly amazing- I wonder just how hard it is to come up with the patterns of some of his dresses and skirts.. I can imagine it would be A LOT of work. Anyway, I hope I get to wear some of his designs one day to some special event as they are truly gorgeous, feminine and stunning designs of artwork. Here's my favourites from the show on Tuesday April 8th, 2013. Enjoy xx
MBAFW 2013: designer 'Camilla'
So to be honest with you . Camilla really isn't my style. I didn't think I would ever have the urge to walk into her store, however, after seeing these images below from APL Photography at the Mercedes Benz Fashion Week in Syndey, currently on at the moment, I feel like I might just want to pop in to her shop in Hawksburn Village, Melbourne, when the new season hits the store. The colours she uses are so out there- and I always thought for me, probably a little too much. But I'm slowly getting into it, understanding it and I guess feeling the confidence to wear it. I feel like when you are wearing her designs, you are telling the world you are happy and confident- which I guess sometimes I have a hard time doing. Often wearing black, navy, white and grey- blending in to all the other Melbournians (which are a fair few) that don't wear colour. Out of the many designs in her show, the photos I've chosen to share below are pieces that I personally love, for some reason, and would potentially buy them for my own wardrobe. I've never been a maxi skirt kind of girl, but the little crop top in the first image is super cute and I can imagine would look great under a sheer white top, or with a pair of high waisted shorts. In saying that- I am in love with the colour scheme in the skirt- and would totally rock a pair of silk pants or leggings in this print. The style of dress in the second pic, as well, is something that I have never worn- but I like this look and love the print. Maybe one day, I'll get the feeling I want to wear it- with a cute pair of sandals or even little converse… Or maybe even a bright pair of Jelly Bean sandals!? The third photo I choose mainly because of the colours. I don't think I would ever wear this style myself, but the model looks absolutely gorgeous and on the right person- this dress would look amazing! Once again, I wouldn't wear the outfit in the fourth photo, but I'm loving the print and the colours. I have a friend I can imagine wearing this outfit and looking absolutely at home, and amazing- as does the model! I'm not sure if the outfit in the fifth photo is a top and skirt, or a dress, but that's something I would like to own.. So cute!! Especially if it is a singlet and skirt as a) you can wear them together as a dress, and b) there are so many options on what to wear with the top and skirt that would look amazing! The jewellery in this look is also really cute and I've been on the lookout for some cute arm bands to wear. Would TOTALLY buy the dress in the sixth photo.. Love it! The colours, the cute style! Wear it with some amazing heels, cute ankle boots or lil biker boots to toughen the look up, or simply wear with cute sandals to rock the whole bohemian look… So many options!! Then of course there is the last photo of the model with the designer Camilla. I'm loving the lil jacket the model is wearing- looks really cool and easy, with a great print on it. Then there is Camilla- in one of her own designs and something she looks truly beautiful in and pulls off so easily, however I would look so weird if I was wearing that! I would feel strange and therefore look totally awkward in it! But that is what is so great about everyone having their own individual style! It makes people observing fun and I'm loving checking out what all the lovely ladies are wearing attending the shows this week at Fashion Week! Anyway- head HERE to the APL Facebook album to check out more photos from her amazing show… So bright, it's nice to look at after such a cold, overcast day here at home! xx
Lisa Tomasetti's "Behind the Scenes: The Australian Ballet on the International Stage"
So reading a magazine today I came across an article with a few images from Lisa Tomasetti's collection of photographs 'Behind The Scenes: The Australian Ballet on the International Stage,' with dancers from The Australian Ballet. She recently had an exhibition on of these images, at the James Makin Gallery in Collingwood, which went for most of the month of March. I'm so sad I missed out on seeing this, as the images would of looked so amazing large and in the flesh. Anyway, I had to look into it more and share these with you as I find them truly beautiful and I wanted the chance to show these to anyone and everyone who is interested enough to look at them. Being a young girl, I was told that I should drop everything to concentrate on a career in ballet, one of the most beautiful and technically challenging forms of dance there is. I was very young at the time, with not much experience in either dance, or knowledge of what life was all about. I choose to rebel, and quit ballet all together to focus on other sports and things. It is something that I will constantly question myself on whether or not I made the right decision.
As written on Mel: Hot or Not, 'I think it’s a dancer’s constant search for the perfect line and form and the potential expressiveness and passion of the human body which fascinates photographers, painters and sculptors.' When I see images like these, it takes me to a place of imagination, that I could of been a ballerina in the Australian Ballet, touring the world and performing to people from all walks of life. Dance is one of the most meaningful things to me and something that has the power to make me happy and feel truly inspired and motivated. As described in the article about this series of photos , 'Beauty, grace and athleticism meet the grit, chaos and noise of some of the world’s largest urban cities in these stunningly beautiful, and quirky photographs… Shot over the past eight years in Paris, Tokyo and New York,..there is something almost surreal about photographs of ballerinas in their tutus and satin point shoes “dancing” on hard road surfaces or across bridges and through railway stations.' It's obvious that the dancers are so happy and willing to be a part of this 'side' project of Tomasetti's, such a talented photographer, with photo's that evoke feelings of wonder and amazement, whilst telling an interesting story of two worlds. Worlds that seem so far apart, yet are part of every day life. I love things that make me smile, think and dream, and these photos do all of the above. I haven't posted in a while, as I have been so busy with moving house, work and other things. But after seeing these images and thinking about what it takes to be a ballerina in the Australian Ballet. The hard work they have put in to make their dreams come true, it makes me so motivated to make the most of the time I have got- to live out your dream, whatever it may be, and try as hard as you can at everything that is important to you, as hard work truly does pay off and I believe if you really want something to happen- you have the power to make it happen. As silly as that sounds! I hope you enjoy these as much as I do. :) xx
